It is a nice idea but he had a lot of work by doing this by this way, I mean , he did it with decorate , ACS and sprites... I think he could do it in a very easier way by , for example , using the third person mode of the game (by typing chase on the console) and with a 3D model replacing the marine's skin sprites.
